154 children qualify to join public schools

Chief Ministers Shri Pawan Chamling congratulates students

Gangtok, March 23, 2013: The Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling felicitated one hundred and fifty four children selected under the Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship Scheme 2013, today. The ambitious scheme of the government had started during the year 2010 and this is the fourth batch of children who are going to various renowned schools of the country as well of the state under this scheme.
During the function organized here at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok the Chief Minister congratulated the children, their parents and the school teachers for their success and also wished them for success in their life. He advised the children to study hard with dedication and return back as able human resource thereby contributing towards the society, state and the country. During the initial period you might face many challenges, given the humble background you are from, the Chief Minister said but hard work and dedication towards studies will remove all the obstacles and challenges you will be facing, he added. He advised the children to change the challenges into opportunity and use their potential to their level best for becoming successful in their life. Our intention is towards creating a sound human resource and lead the world in the field of knowledge, the Chief Minister said.
While talking about the various initiatives taken by the government for the development of human resource in the state the Chief Minister added that posterity will remember this government for its steps when it starts bearing fruit. He also assured to provide more and more facilities in the field of human resource and capacity building of the youths of the state.

The Chief Minister urged the departmental official to concentrate more in the primary education and directed to work hard in the implementation of the government schemes and programmes. He also directed the department to initiate immediate action to complete the incomplete school infrastructures. He also informed the gathering of the students and the parents of the government decision to start the Chief Minister’s Annual and Total Checkup for Health (CATCH) programme in every school and vaccination of Cervical Cancer to every girl child.
The Chief Minister also facilitated top three meritorious children Miss Lamit Lepcha of Timbong Secondary School, Dzongu, North Sikkim, Miss Roshni Tamang of Namgong Primary School, Rinchenpong, West Sikkim and Mr. Anup Timshina of Badamtam Primary School, South Sikkim.
In his address Minister for Human Resource Development Department Mr. N.K Pradhan said that the state government has set an example by implementing this innovative idea of CMMSS for the poor people of Sikkim. He further said that this scheme is a vision of the Chief Minister Shri Pawan Chamling whose has feelings towards the people of the state. He thanked the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of Sikkim for providing the scheme in the state.
The counseling programme was also addressed by the parents representatives who shared their experience on the education of the child in the public schools and thanked the Chief Minister for the opportunity. The students of previous batches of CMMSS also shared their experiences of their study in the public school.
Earlier, the Secretary HRDD, Mr. C.S Rao delivered welcome speech and also briefed about the CMMSS programme and its transparent selection procedure.
During the programme the department gave a power presentation and informed the gathering about the various renowned schools of the country through slide show where the children are being sent.
The programme was also attended by the Speaker Mr. K.T Gyaltsen, Cabinet Ministers, MLA, Advisors, and Officials from HRDD, Principal of Public Schools and Teachers from Government School and Parents of the children.
